With the cost of living crisis starting to take effect, we are unfortunately starting to see an increase in Dry Riser thefts. As you can understand, this can have huge consequences not realised by the thieves. A critical fire fighting piece of equipment that has been left in a vandalised state WILL put lives at risk.

Ultimately, if someone is determined enough to steal dry riser components, they will. But, we can make life more difficult which hopefully means the would be thieves will focus their ill gotten gains elsewhere.

Once informed of a theft, we prioritise the call and RED FLAG as ‘A1’ on our service management system . We inform the local Fire service as soon as possible of a non-working piece of fire fighting equipment and inform them when the system is brought back on line. We hold extensive local stocks with 6 service and 3 installation vans capable of rerouting to ensure the fire safety of your building is brought back in line as soon as possible.

The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) are aware of these thefts and have informed all members to be aware and record vehicle number plates and carry out ID checks on all dry riser valves arriving at their sites.

Once our Engineers are on site they will assess what is required, replace from van stock or our depot, fit, retest to 12 Bar and recertify. Once signed off, we contact the local fire service to inform them of the rectification of the system. All this often happens within one working day.

Once selected, Dry Risers Direct Ltd were tasked with installing 2 No. Dry Risers at Waterloo Train Station. These were installed to provide the old Eurostar platforms that are to be re opened as general use platforms to accommodate the future extra capacity requirements on the rail network. 

A total of 500Mtrs of pipework (primarily horizontal) including the Compression Joints was installed feeding 8 outlet valves. Plenty of drains were used to facilitate the emptying of the system. As you will see from the photo’s, long radius bends were also utilised.

Testing and Commissioning started at midnight when the station was closed with a 6 Bar soak test, followed by a 12 BAR full pressure test.

This is a brand new site, with the engineers reporting excellent working conditions. Two installation teams were put on site to ensure the project timelines were met. In total, five days were required from starting to install to commission and sign off.

It is a legal requirement that all dry riser installations require a wet test every 12 months. Only a flow and pressure test can confirm that water will be delivered as expected when the riser is called upon in a fire emergency.

Dry risers do help saves lives and you could be prosecuted if they have not been regularly tested and inspected in accordance with BS9990:2015.

An order for 3 No. Dry riser systems was recently secured at the prestigious ‘Wine Rack’ (Regatta Quay) overlooking the Orwell on the Ipswich waterfront. A total of 30 outlet valves will offer full coverage to the 149 new homes and 5,000 square feet of commercial space

The tower block was left unfinished when original developers, City Living, went into administration in 2010. Now, it is being converted into a major feature of the waterfront with 149 flats and 5,000 square feet of commercial space.The first homes on the site are expected to be ready for occupation in the spring of 2019, but the whole project is not likely to be completed until the end of 2020.

The £20million scheme is being completed by property developer John Howard and contractors RG Carter Construction, with £15m from housing and regeneration agency Homes England and £5m from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Work starts on the 10th September 2018 for two weeks work installing 27 floors of Wet Riser and Test Drain pipework and valves in London

The residential “mini-Shard” has been built next to London’s tallest skyscraper. The 27-storey, 160,000 sq ft block is the latest phase of the “London Bridge Quarter” and contains about 150 apartments, as  well as shops and landscaped public gardens. It has been designed and developed by the same team responsible for The Shard —architect Renzo Piano and the Sellar Property Group — with the financial backing of the Qatari government.

Work has begun on 96 new apartments on the site of the former Lombard House in Croydon, South London and Dry Risers Direct have been selected to install 5 dry risers.

Bellway Homes are delivering the scheme, called Ikon, in Purley Way There are 31 affordable homes for rent, and a 57-space car park.

Around 10 miles from central London this collection of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom apartments incorporates built-in kitchen appliances, open-plan living spaces and en suite shower rooms. Dry Risers Direct Ltd were selected to supply, install and commission a new dry riser at the former site of De Niro’s nightclub in Newmarket. A 4 landing valve system will provide coverage for the conversion to 46 stunning one and two bedroom apartments. In addition to the luxury apartments and affordable housing provided as a result of this project, there will also be 290 square meters of office space for commercial use.

More than 80 years after it first opened as a cinema, the building, which during its long history was also De Niro’s nightclub, has been converted into luxury flats.

A cinema for nearly 30 years, it closed in 1964 and stood empty for 15 years until it re-opened in 1979 as the Newmarket Cabaret Club. It was to continue as an entertainment venue, most famously as De Niro’s nightclub, the largest of its kind in East Anglia, right up until 2014 when then owner, Terry Lake, put it on the market for £2.1 million.

It was bought by local agent Clarke Philips, under the directorship of Phil Parsons, for developer The Murfet Group, which developed the plans to turn the building into apartments and office space.

The conversion has retained the buildings’s much-loved frontage including the Doric columns from which the building is believed to have got its name.
